Some questions answered

Q  How long has Dove Christian Counselling been in existence?

A  'The Christian Counselling Service' was founded in the mid 1980's in Edinburgh.  It became 'Dove Christian Counselling' in the mid 1990's and now operates from Glasgow.

Q   Are your counsellors accredited?

All our counsellors have completed recognised counselling training and are registered with or working towards accreditation with the Association of Christian Counsellors.

Q  Do you only counsel Christians?

A  No. We are a Christian counselling service meaning that all our counsellors are Christians and we operate from a biblical counselling model.  However, we counsel people of any background and faith and we fully respect the client's position and beliefs.

Q  What about confidentiality?

Confidentiality is offered within a team context.  This is for accountability and supervision purposes and is in the best interests of the client.  This does not necessarily mean that the client's name or any identifying details will be divulged; merely that the issues involved may be discussed in supervision.  Confidentiality cannot be assured should there be certain criminal information disclosed or the counsellor has serious concern either for the client's safety or the safety of another.

Q  Who would be present during the counselling session?

A  In some cases we operate with a sitter-in.  This person is usually a trainee counsellor.  This is open to negotiation but a counsellor will not counsel the opposite sex on his/her own.
